Politics and Faith

Does politics belong in faith?

Should churches live by government laws or biblical laws?

Matthew 22:17-22 (ESV)

17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” 22 When they heard it, they marvelled. And they left him and went away.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding within church is very important due to the world we live in today.  Discernment should also be in place as safeguarding has gone to the extremes of alienating decent, trustworthy members.

Isaiah 26:1-3 (NIV)

1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:  We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.  Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith.  3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Judging Others

What right do we have to judge others?

Matthew 7:1-5 (NIV)

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Doctrine

What is more important:  Man made rules or bible doctrine?

Man made rules have a place in our society and are a good, safe way to lead our lives.  We need order in our lives and rules to abide by.

As Christians biblical doctrines are equally important
